Pakistan premier vows end of polio in 6 months

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s prime minister has vowed to make this Islamic nation a polio-free country in the next six months by vaccinating each and every child against the crippling disease.
Nawaz Sharif’s comment came during a high-level meeting on the subject in the capital, Islamabad.
According to a government statement, Sharif warned that he would not tolerate negligence during an anti-polio campaign that Pakistan plans to launch this month. cripple
Pakistan is among the world’s only three countries where polio, which can cause paralysis and death, remains endemic.
Since January, Pakistan has detected 235 polio cases, a record figure. Pakistan blames it on militants, who regularly target vaccination teams.
The militants accuse polio workers of acting as spies for Washington, and say the vaccine makes boys sterile.
